St Mary’s Church, Bridport
Repairing a local church
The Grade I listed church of St Mary’s, Bridport had a leaking roof over the north aisle.
The client had thought for some time that the roof was nearing the end of its serviceable life – there were numerous patches and repairs. There was also significant deformation of the structure in places.
However, upon investigation we found that the roof structure was mainly sound and only a few localised repairs were needed. We also replaced the outlets from the lead sumps, which were no longer wide enough to drain increasing levels of rain.
Water ingress had caused parts of the lath and plaster ceiling beneath to become detached, and so once the roof had been re-covered with new lead, this was also repaired and redecorated.
The work was undertaken by Perrennial Roofing.
