Behind the scenes at the restoration of St Nicholas, Worth Matravers
We are delighted to see the completion of the rebuild of the church roof, with locally sourced timber and Purbeck stone slates where required, at St Nicholas of Myra church at Worth Matravers, Swanage, after many years of planning and fund raising by the church, including securing a kick-start grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Tudor Rose Masonry & Conservation were appointed to carry out the complex works, which included having to replace every rafter!
The church project team have produced a fascinating behind-the-scenes video of the restoration of the roof, which can be viewed here.
They also produced an informative report for the HLF to encourage and inform other churches facing similar challenges. You can read the report here.
