Historic lychgate gets new lease of life

The Grade II Listed lychgate at St Andrew’s Church, Preston is being lovingly repaired by Jason Ive.

Constructed in 1911, with timber elements repurposed from a 15th century property that had been destroyed by fire in 1908, the lychgate underwent a period of restoration in 1950 but had become structurally unsound.

Decayed timber has been cut away and new timber skilfully spliced in, retaining as much historic fabric as possible. The frame has been assembled at the workshop for a final check prior to reinstating where it belongs.
